A bit of happy/unhappy news [Apr. 11th, 2005|10:29 pm]

So if you have not heard at this point, you'll find out soon enough: Phi Psi is losing its house next year. No question. Some sort of thing may be thrown together to house some quantity of us, but we all are doing room draw. So what do I wind up with, after a lot of worry on my part that all the Wood singles would be filled? 330 Wood Tower C. That's right, I am now officialy a conquistador of Tower C for BSFFA. I fee a sudden desire for 16th century Spanish armor.
So awesome. I even have West facing windows which, while not giving me nearly the view I had this year, will keep the early morning sun out. And maybe being a little removed from tower will be good for me. It certainly made housing easier.
There is stil the (very remote) possibility that some sort of housing may be cobbled toegether by Winkie for Phi Psi next year, but I can't forsee having to live there. So for the time being I get a weird sort of getting to have my cake and eat it too: being in Phi Psi without alienating myself from the BSFFA house that I love so much and have given so much too.
On the other hand, my Philosophy paper is a day late, BelCon was terrible, I skipped my morning classes, etc. So it's really been a day of extremes. But I feel good right now. That should and will change at some point, but for now it's cool.

BelCon was pretty terrible. Sad about Phi Psi, I'm sorry.

That's the budget process for you. Plus the crazy non-trad. Plus some bad leadership (I certainly wasn't helping). So in short, I agree.

Wow, you might actually look good in a conquistador suit. I've been trying to think of a period you belong in. *Ponder*

Oh, um, and what they said... congrats, and sorry.

I think I need more dark facial hair to make it work well.

Work on the facial hair, and I'll see about some dye.

Welcome to the late paper team. I assume you're talking about the modern paper.

Freaking Berkeley, I hate you so much.

yeah.... it's a problem entirely of my own making. A lot of mine are that way. And now it's only worse: I didn't need another thing to do today.

Wow. Way to win. Very nice.

I'm sure things will work out with Phi Psy. They're generally pretty awesome, and John knows it.

Seems like things did work out pretty ideally for you, I'd say.

What happened to phi psi? I was on housing committee for a good number of years, and though phi psi was considered for being MOVED, we never considered giving them the straight-up boot.

Well, here's what i was told. People were scrambling to get enough pledges to fill the house. And we got fairly close: spring beta class is 9 people. However, we still didn't get thirty. And it only became evident that we weren't getting thirty this last week, long after it was too late to move us somewhere else on campus. We are not losing our charter, so we will still exist. Just in a very different model from what we have in the past.
There will be discussion next year about getting a house or something similar for the following year. Of course, we won't try for something nearly so large again. As someone said at the meeting where this came out: "We've been losing this house for ten years." Having to fight to fill up is not something that I think we want to try again. Also, removing the requirement that all members live in house opens us up to people that, while they would probably be good for us and we for them, have adamantly refused to join because of the residency requirement.
So we are being moved, it's just going to take a year longer than it otherwise should have.

Hm. Seems like the situation could have been handled in a much better fashion than this (by the committees, not by Phi Psi, though I'm sure they bear their share of it). Frats without houses are sad frats.

But on the whole a move is probably a positive thing, as you say.

This isn't a decision on the part of any committee. This is straight up John and his perception of Phi Psi's dwindling support. Reslife Comm. voted to keep us 840 this year.

I suspect this is a sign post on the way to the morge, but I guess we'll see.

I'm not convinced of that - you have more members (in the sense of people who support the house) than a lot of clubs that are given houses.

As for john making unilateral decisions - well, that makes more sense still. Reslife committee irks me - very little actual influence. Most of the committee is his lapdog, and he just ignores anything he doesn't like.
