Self-centered holiday post

I've been objectively aware of the holiday season for a while, but it hasn't really sunk in. The holidays have always involved breaks, and various family activites/vacations, and this year I won't be there for that. I do have extended family in the far western suburbs of the Twin Cities, and I'll go see them for part of Christmas day (and the grandparents will be there, and that's good), but it will be very different. And has the potential to be monstrously awkward, but probably in a way where I come out smelling like a rose. Have to wait and see, I guess.

I'm also working throughout the holidays, which is certainly different. I don't know whether to call it good or not. Probably better than being unemployed in these circumstances, I guess.

I must admit I'm looking forward to the holidays in part because of the financial benefits I'll receive, both from work and family. I've been living real close to the bone here, which has caused me no small amount of worry. It will be nice to have new things that aren't bare essentials again.

Part of the reason it hasn't felt much like the holidays is that it's been dry as a bone. Well, we finally got some snow yesterday (after some rain), and apparently more is on the way later today, so hopefully it'll hold.
